Ha! I've already been tagged by Myfanwy and done mine ... although now I'd like to go back and add an Australian book to my list after your blog on landscape and culture. I think I'd pick Tim Winton's Dirt Music for it's sheer beauty although I think the ending lets the narrative down.

Thanks for tagging me Kathryn, I enjoyed doing this. Though it took me a while - all that browsing on my bookshelf slowed me down.

No, no "e," Kathryn.

I can't remember exactly why I stopped reading Middlesex. A bit long-winded, perhaps. Also I loved The Virgin Suicides and it was disappointing as a follow up.

Tom - do you get a little "e" at the top of your comment where it says "Comment by tom | 2006/04/24 at 05:26:29 |e"??? Does that allow you to edit? If not, I'll try editing in your slashes.

Don't know Troubles or JG Farrell so thanks for that, Tom. What was it about Middlesex that made you stop? I can't remember what it was for me - it was a while ago now and normally I blame myself, my mood, and what's going on in my life for not finishing a book rather than blame the book itself. Not sure I would have finished The Secret History had I read it now. I remember persisting with that one - I was really curious about it and all the hype surrounding it, the author, and the publishing deal.

Oops, my slashes haven't come out. They were there in the preview. My recommendation isn't in the right place either. Damn. Don't seem to be able to edit. You get the gist, anyway.
