Friday’s Five Minute Interview: Ellen Meister
1. Who are you?
Ellen Meister, mom, wife, sister, daughter, writer, blogger, friend, lover, minivan-driver, contact lens wearer, migraine sufferer, cook, reader, hugger, laundress, skeptic, believer, supermarket shopper, homework helper, laugher, weeper, Scrabble player, PTA member, interviewee.
2. What do you write?
What I AIM to write is smart, funny novels about women and their relationships with one another and their families.
3. Why do you write what you write?
I write what I most want to read, with a pretty heavy emphasis on keeping the reader engaged and entertained. Part of that is my advertising background and part of it is just my personality. I worry relentlessly that if I don’t tapdance my heart out on every page I’m going to lose you.
4. Why should we read what you write?
I can’t bring myself to tell anyone they SHOULD read my books. Read them if you want to. If not, that’s fine, too.
5. Is the world a better place because of what you write?
What a big question. I don’t think my novel, “Secret Confessions of the Applewood PTA,” has had a perceptible impact on the world at large. From what I hear, though, it’s made some people laugh and cry and spend a few enjoyable hours reading. That’s enough for me.
