I don't know the Macaire books, so I'll have to look them up, thanks. 

My partner has been reading Plutarch's Alexander and Arrian's Alexander and finds that all mention of man-to-man love comes across as totally normal.

					<description>I read two of Jennifer Macaire's books on Alexander...they are light and funny and not scholarly (and great fun) but she portrayed him as AC/DC in a rather understandable way.  Historically, I think the Greeks all took boys to war for that purpose and it was generally A-OK with even their wives/lovers.
