novel
I have completed a first novel called Palimpsest.
About
Palimpsest is a novel about high ideals and low obsessions, truth and identity, immigration, nationality and race; about what we believe and what happens when belief degenerates into fanaticism.
When thirty-five year old philosopher, Kally Palamas, must unexpectedly travel to Zelopolis to attend her father’s funeral, all she really wants is to escape her own stagnant life and her inability to participate in academic life after the death of her daughter. Little does she know, however, that her father’s bizarre plan to restore the former glory of the ancient city of Zelopolis has incited locals. Kally confronts a cast of characters, who either praise or revile her father, including Ari who claims he’s written her father’s biography. Thus begins an unravelling of her father’s life and death, of the modern village and ancient city of Zelopolis, of the modern Greek’s obsession with the past, and of Kally’s own confrontation with the death of her daughter and the death of her own philosophical abilities.
