Oh, I didn't know that eHow was aimed at students, I thought it was aimed at anyone who'd lost touch with their commonsensical alter-ego. Granted, some how-tos are useful - stuff your mum or grandmum would advise on - i.e. how to remove an oil stain from a satin shirt, but some of the stuff crosses the line and is really about average common sense.

Anyway - about reading. My book consumption has decreased rather extremely. I can't seem to let myself go and just fall into a book as I used to. I'm hoping it's temporary. I've always got a book that I'm reading, or two or three, but it takes forever to progress through it. You're lucky to have that bus ride!

Sorry, I know the eHow guide is aimed at students and anything that has succeeded in rekindling your interest in the novel form must be a good thing.

Actually, like you, I stopped reading novels for many, many months if not almost a year. You know what got me back into reading? A really slow and tedious bus journey to and from work every day. It's only four bloody miles but it takes a good half hour, sometimes longer. I used to get so bored and despondant as the bus progressed at a crawl through the traffic that I needed something to occupy myself lest I go completely barking mad.

So I started reading again. The pile of unread books on my shelf that once looked insurmountable now consists of only a couple of tomes. I'm going to have to buy some more books!

New on eHow: How to wipe your arse!

I should not read a novel when there is an easier version available, e.g. Cliff’s Notes or a movie version.

OK, anybody who seriously suggests that needs to die. Horribly.
